When my son was four years old, he was a chameleon who could merge interior and exterior different characters at the drop of a hat. I knew in an instant whether he was Peter Pan, Wendy, Captain Hook, or Prince Daniel from Swan Lake. He donned costumes most times of the entire year, bringing the happiness and excitement of Halloween to our house frequently. My husband and I became safe from the silliness from it all, not batting a watch while he emerged from his bedroom wearing only his skivvies designed with a pirate hat, patch and sword, yelling, "Walk the plank!" We even added vinyl paintings to his playroom depicting several famous characters.

Regarding his propensity to rework into various movie and book characters, his urge for control of all situations emerged. He would be a man responsible for his domain, the master of his ship, the caller from the proverbial shots. Meals, tasks, and routines was a battle of wills between me plus a four-year-old. I want to think that I had the upper turn in these daily negotiations, the highly educated, worldly woman that I am. But, honestly, I have to admit that child can argue like there's no tomorrow and surely features a future being a highly successful trial lawyer.
As my son's fascination with pirates grew, we found ourselves moving to an alternative town and getting a new house. The complete family was reveling inside the glory of the home. I had been giddy when i painted every room inside your home with fresh, hip colors and applied vinyl wall decals for the nursery of the unborn sibling growing inside me. My hubby would not sleep nights as he planned his landscaping ventures for the next 6 months, and our beautifully precocious son was faced with decorating his very own bedroom.
You heard right. He could pick the colors, the theme, the skill, the furniture. Everything was as much as him! An aspiration come true to get a four-year-old and a true victory for his mom, who had been planning to use her best skills to con him to the little boy's bedroom of her very own dreams. When he requested pink walls, I gently reminded him that Peter Pan's favorite color was blue and wouldn't he enjoy having a blue room? Well, yes, in reality he did! As he chose Barbie vinyl wall decals, I opened up countless examples of pirate-themed vinyl wall art. It had not been long before his bedroom was changed into a real pirate's cove. Vinyl sketches provided the idea as well as the art upon the walls. Swords regally marked the closet doors, a pistol pointed towards the light switch, a jolly roger hung over the toy box. Since i have cannot call myself a painter, I'd are saying that vinyl wall decals saved me from walking the plank!
